Lions down Tusculum in final home game of 2021
The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (3-7, 2-6 SAC) defeated Tusculum (1-4, 0-4 SAC) by a score of 15-12 Saturday night in their final home game of 2021.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (3-7, 2-6 SAC) defeated Tusculum (1-4, 0-4 SAC) by a score of 15-12 Saturday night in their final home game of 2021.
The Lions struck early, going up 2-0 in the first 1:22 with goals from Kiersten Foust and Sydney Joyce. After Tusculum tied the game at two, the teams traded goals until the 19:27 mark of the half when the Pioneers took their first lead of the game, up 5-4. The Lions went on to score five of the final six goals of the half with Joyce netting three. Alexa Tazzetta and Taylor Burgess scored the other goals in the run.
Mars Hill carried a 9-6 advantage into the second half as Joyce led all players with four goals. Foust recorded a hat-trick in the opening 30 minutes of play. Megann McKinney led the Pioneers with three goals in the half.
Each team recorded six goals in the second half with Tusculum's McKinney and Juliette Cusano scoring two times apiece. Joyce scored three to lead the Lions.
Joyce led all players with nine points (7g, 2a) while Foust ended the night with four goals. McKinney led the Pioneers with five goals followed by Cusano (2g, 1a) and Tia Tuininga's (3g) three points.
The Lions close out the regular season on the road on Saturday, April 17 when they face Lenoir-Rhyne. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
