Belmont Abbey powers way to win over Baseball at Atrium Health Ballpark
Kannapolis, N.C. —- The Catawba College baseball team played at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, falling to Belmont Abbey 12-6. The Crusaders improve to 22-10 overall, while the Catawba Indians drop to 19-14 on the season.
Levi Perrell went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Drew Robertson joined him with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Todd Velotta recorded four hits for BAC, while Ben Ferguson drove in four runs.
Belmont Abbey broke a scoreless tie in the third inning, putting up five runs in the frame highlighted by Carter DuHaime's two-run home run. The Crusaders added four more runs in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead.
Catawba recorded two runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Aaron Williams recorded an RBI-groundout and Carson Yates singled through the right side to cut the deficit to 9-2.
BAC added three more runs in the seventh, taking a 12-2 lead heading into the ninth. Catawba rallied for four runs in the ninth with Logan Rogers leading it off with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. Jackson Finger drove in JR Lingerfelt on a sacrifice fly, Yates scored on a passed ball and Perrell hit an RBI-infield single to cut the deficit to six before BAC closed the game out.
Catawba returns home to Newman Park on Friday, kicking off a three-game homestand against Anderson in return to South Atlantic Conference play. First pitch for game one is set for 6 p.m.
