Men's Soccer Comes Up Short to Seventh Ranked LR 1-0 in SAC Semis

HICKORY, N.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team's season came to an end on Thursday (Apr. 8) with a 1-0 loss to nationally ranked (#7) Lenoir-Rhyne in the SAC tournament semifinals.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored the lone goal of the match in the 12th minute off a penalty kick, as David Sduzy was able to find the back of the net after a yellow card was given to goalkeeper Gal Elyashiv. The Trojans were able to get three shots on goal throughout the night, but the Bears' defense held strong for the win.

"Tough loss tonight, which ends our spring season earlier than we wanted," said coach Michael Zion. "I'm proud of the team and their efforts this year under all the conditions. We keep showing that we are a team that can compete with anyone."

The Trojans end the season with a 5-2-1 record, going 4-1 in SAC pod play. Earlier this week, five Trojans received All-SAC honors. Harry Ward, Alexandre Cox-Ashwood, and Tevin Lessey were selected to the All-SAC second team, while Agustin Ortiz and Andres Osorio were honorable mentions. On March 24th, Gal Elyashiv was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week and the Trojans were ranked 22nd in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll
