Mars Hill outlasts Young Harris for third straight win

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (3-1) defeated Young Harris (0-5) by a score of 9-8 Saturday night on the road.
Tied at four after the first half of play, the Lions outscored Young Harris 2-1 in the third frame with goals from Trevor Kennedy and Zac Carrigan coming 1:34 apart, putting Mars Hill up 6-5 entering the final 15 minutes of play.
Wyatt Peek recorded a hat-trick in the fourth quarter, but the Lions were able to hold off the pressure with two goals from Brandon Woodward and one from Trevor Kennedy. Cole Ross and Justin Lundy earned assists in the frame.
The Lions opened the scoring with Zac Carrigan's man-up goal, but Young Harris responded with goals from Tommy Chriszt and Gunnar Fagerstrom.
In the second quarter, goals from Lundy, Ross, and Carrigan were able to put the Lions up 4-3 late before a goal from Tanner Redmon knotted things up and sent the teams into the locker rooms tied.
Chriszt led all players with four points (2g, 2a) followed by Peek's three goal effort. Carrigan led the Lions with three goals while Woodward and Kennedy ended the night with two goals apiece. Ross and Lundy each recorded a goal and an assist.
Steven Smith made 17 saves for the win while Dylan Wilbur stopped 20 in the losing effort.
The Lions return to the field on Saturday, February 26 when they host Emmanuel. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
