DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Anderson baseball team stepped out of conference play on Tuesday night and dropped a 5-1 decision to 22nd-ranked North Georgia, Tuesday night at Bob Stein Stadium.
Anderson slipped to 10-13 with its second loss in three outings, while North Georgia (19-7) improved to 15-1 at home with its fourth straight win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Junior Chandler Castleberry had one of the Trojans' three hits on the night – a second inning double - and was also hit by a pitch twice. Seniors Trevor Weisner and Davis Goodyear each posted singles, with lead-off hitter Cody Adams, sophomore Justin Fox and catcher Tyler Berry each drawing a walk.
Joseph Cottone, Jr. (1-3) suffered the loss after allowing just one run on two hits in three innings of work on the mound. The left-hander fanned two batters and walked one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Nighthawks took advantage of a lead-off double in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead and a pair of home runs in the fourth inning propelled them to a 4-0 advantage.
AU avoided the shutout by getting on the scoreboard in the seventh inning, when Berry drew a lead-off walk, went to third on Weisner's single down the right-field line and crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
North Georgia finished out the scoring with an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
