Trojans Escape Upset Minded Queens; 75-69

Anderson, S.C.- The Anderson University women's basketball team escaped upset minded South Atlantic Conference opponent Queens, defeating the Royals, 75-69, on Monday evening at the Abney Athletic Center. The Trojans move to 12-10 overall and 11-9 in SAC play, while the Royals slide to 1-17 overall and 1-16 in conference action.

"Always good to finish the regular season with a win," emphasized head coach Johnathon Barbaree. "Queens played a great game and did a great job every time we extended a lead to fight back."

"Seeing us get back on the boards and to the free throw line like we did is key for us come tournament time next Saturday," added Barbaree.

KEY STATS

- Anderson shot 36.9 (24-65) percent from the field, while the Royals shot 42.6 percent (26-61).
- The Trojans outrebounded Queens, 52-28.
- Anderson shot 37.5% (6-of-16) from behind the arc, with Queens shooting 34.8 percent (8-of-23).
- The Black and Gold recorded seven blocked shots.
- Anderson shot 87.5 (21-24) from the charity stripe, while the Royals shot 75 percent (9-12).
- The Trojans scored 22 second chance points.

KEY TROJANS

- Britney Bailey and McKenzie Gadson scored a team-high 14 points, with Bailey ripping down a career-high 19 rebounds. Bailey also dished out three assists and was credited with three blocked shots and a steal.
Taylor Hair netted 11 points and pulled down six rebounds.
- J'Mya Cutter contributed eight points and chased down a career-high 10 rebounds.

First Quarter

-Anderson outscored the Royals 21-13.
-The Trojans ended the final two and a half minutes on a 7-2 run.

Second Quarter

- Queens outscored the Trojans, 19-14.
- QU's Christina Deng and Tia McMillian combined for 13 of the 19 points scored.
- AU lead by as many as 10, before the Royals cut the lead to three heading into halftime.

Third Quarter

 -Queens narrowly outscored Anderson, 20-18.
-AU's Hair made two foul shots to give AU a five point lead with 8:20 to play in the quarter.
- The Royals tied the game on a three-point basket with 3:51 remaining.
-Over the final 3:51, the score was tied four times and there were four lead changes.

Fourth Quarter

-B. Bailey's jumper pushed Anderson lead back to five points with 8:11 to play.
- Deng's layup tied the contest with 5:23 remaining in the game.
- A quick 5-0 spurt pushed the Trojans lead back to five and eventually AU led by eight with just 19 ticks to go.
- AU made 4-of-6 free throws in the final 1:28 to help seal the victory.

-Anderson will host one of the quarterfinal rounds on Saturday. SAC opponent and game time to be determined following the conclusion of the season on Wednesday.
