Lions felled by Pioneers in non-conference play
The Mars Hill baseball team (14-22, 8-9 SAC) traveled to Tusculum to take on Tusculum (15-20) in midweek action on Wednesday afternoon.

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill baseball team (14-22, 8-9 SAC) traveled to Tusculum to take on Tusculum (15-20) in midweek action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions lost the non-conference game against the Pioneers by a score of 13-4.
The Lions jumped out to an early three-run lead in the top of the second inning thanks to a Chad Sikes' backside single that plated Zach Weaver and a Chapel Matson double down the left field line to score Scottie Lee and Ruben Trillo.
Leading 3-1 in the sixth, Trillo stepped up to the plate and launched his sixth homer of the year down the left field line to extend the Lions' lead to three.
The Lions would give up 10 runs on the bottom half of the inning as the Pioneers were able to string together five hits, one of which being a home run from Rudy Fernandez, and taking advantage of a pair of Lions errors.
Brian Smart started the game for the Lions, throwing five strong innings, while Trystan Camp entered in relief and was given the loss. Pioneer reliever Drew Sliwinski delivered 2.2 innings and was given his second win of the season.
The Lions are back in action this weekend as the travel to Catawba for a three-game SAC series. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday evening.
