#19 Baseball takes rubber match at Anderson behind emphatic 22-0 win

Anderson, S.C. —- The 19th-ranked Catawba College baseball team left no doubt in the rubber match against Anderson, defeating the host Trojans 22-0 in seven innings in South Atlantic Conference action. The Catawba Indians improve to 32-10 overall on the season and 19-5 in SAC play, a full three games over second place.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba out-hit Anderson 23-5

- The Catawba Indians recorded all five extra-base hits

- The Trojans committed three of four errors in the contest

- Catawba had all five stolen bases on the afternoon

- The Catawba Indian staff did not allow a run on five hits and one walk, striking out five; the Anderson pitchers allowed 20 earned runs on 23 hits and six walks, striking out four

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Bo Rusher was 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored

- Logan Rogers went 3-for-6, including his team-leading 10th homer of the season and a double, with four RBI and three runs scored

- LevI Perrell had a 4-for-7 day with a double, two stolen bases, four RBI and a run scored

- Drew Robertson was 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and three runs scored

- Ty Hubbard and Cooper Bryson also added three-hit games

- Cole Hales earned the win on the mound, improving to 4-0 this season, throwing five shutout innings with just three hits allowed, with five punchouts; Mason Gwyn and Trace Aufderhar added scoreless innings of relief

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

SECOND INNING

- Perrell's RBI single to left center got the scoring started in the second

 

THIRD INNING

- Robertson's two-run homer in the third gave Catawba a 3-0 cushion

 

FOURTH INNING

- Another RBI single from Perrell added to the Catawba lead before Hubbard scored on an error

- With the bases loaded, Rusher deposited a two-run single to center field

- Rogers drove in another on an RBI fielder's choice

- Bryson's sac fly capped the scoring on a 6-run fourth with Catawba leading 9-0

 

FIFTH INNING

- Rusher scored two more runs on an RBI single with no outs in the fifth

- Bryson doubled down the line to add two more runs, leading 13-0

 

SIXTH INNING

- Robertson's RBI single, Jackson Finger's sac fly and Hubbard's RBI single added to the Catawba lead, 16-0

 

SEVENTH INNING

- Rogers launched a grand slam with still nobody out in the seventh to boost the lead to 20-0

- Perrell's two-run double made it a 22-0 advantage

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba looks to keep the run production coming when it faces a top-25 test in #25 UNC Pembroke on Tuesday; the two will meet in the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers' Atrium Health Ballpark at 6 p.m.
