Bertelsen's late strike pushes Lions past LMU

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (3-1-2, 3-1-1 SAC) completed the season sweep of Lincoln Memorial (2-3, 2-3 SAC), winning 2-1 Friday night.
In the 85th minute, Thomas Bertelsen broke free inside the box and slammed a shot low inside the far post for the game-winning tally, his second of the year and against LMU.
The Lions opened the scoring in the 35th minute as Sebastian Bertilsson netted his fifth of the season. Taking a cross from Ethan Lee, Bertilsson slid the ball past Robin Hermann inside the near post.
Playing a man-down for a majority of the second half, the Lions weathered a Lincoln Memorial storm until the Railsplitters broke through. Shanden Vergara, all alone, blew a shot past Brennan Whalen to knot the game at one in the 76th minute.
The Lions outshot LMU 19-10, including an 11-4 advantage in the first half. Whalen made three saves for his third win of the year while Hermann stopped five.
Mars Hill closes out the regular season on Thursday, April 1 when they host Carson-Newman. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
