Late Bears' goal downs Lions

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's soccer team (6-5-1, 3-4 SAC) was defeated by Lenoir-Rhyne (7-3, 5-2 SAC) by a score of 1-0 Wednesday night.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the lone goal of the contest in the 81st minute as Oliver Gardner blasted home the rebound off of a Xavier Moya shot for his first of the season.
The Lions had two opportunities late off of a Sebastian Bertilsson header and a put back attempt by Dan Roth, both narrowly missing the cage.
Lenoir-Rhyne outshot the Lions 12-7 in the second half of action.
The first half saw a tight contest as the Bears held a 3-2 shot advantage. Roth presented the best scoring chance for either team as Camden Coleman had to make a diving save to keep the score at 0-0 entering the second frame.
Victor Cascon and Jamie de Manuel led all players with three shot attempts, two on target. Roth, Bertilsson, and Kevonte Willoughby-Williams each had two attempts on the night.
Coleman made two saves in the win while Brennan Whalen stopped seven in the loss.
The Lions return to the pitch on Saturday, October 16 when they take on Catawba at 3:30 p.m. inside Meares Stadium.
