Lions downed in OT thriller versus UAH
The Mars Hill men’s lacrosse team (2-5) was edged by Alabama-Huntsville (5-2) in overtime by a score of 14-13 Sunday afternoon.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (2-5) was edged by Alabama-Huntsville (5-2) in overtime by a score of 14-13 Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 13-10 with under eight minutes to play, the Chargers reeled off three straight goals to force the extra frame. Less than a minute into the overtime period, Ian Arnt scored off of a rebound to complete the comeback win.
The teams were tied at two after the first 15 minutes of play. Trevor Kennedy opened the scoring for the Lions with his 12th of the season and George Yanssens netted his sixth of the year.
After giving up the first goal of the second, Mars Hill scored five straight goals with two coming from Kennedy and three straight from Brandon Woodward for the natural hat-trick. The Chargers scored four of the last six goals of the frame to close the deficit to two, 9-7, entering the half.
The Chargers opened the third by scoring two quick goals to tie the game at nine, but Mars Hill responded with goals from Woodward and Kennedy just 18 seconds apart to retake the lead.
Alabama-Huntsville outscored the Lions 4-2 in the final frame. Yanssens and Cole Ross scored the Mars Hill goals.
Kennedy led all players with eight points (5g, 3a) while Woodward added four (4g). Arnt led the Charges with four goals.
Max Keller stopped nine shots in the win while Steven Smith made a season-high 21 saves.
The Lions return to South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, March 11 when they host Catawba. The contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
