Lions fall to Lees-McRae on road

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (2-1) was defeated by Lees-McRae (2-2) by a score of 81-63 Friday night.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead, opening the contest on a 9-0 run. With under six minutes to play in the first frame, they'd build their lead to 15. The Lions, with under five minutes remaining in the half, would close the gap to eight, going on a 7-0 run, but Lees-McRae continued to convert shots, holding that 15-point edge going into the half.
Lees-McRae shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half with Drew Gardner's eight points leading the way. Three Bobcats added six points apiece. Kory Davis led the Lions with nine points followed by six from Prosper Obidiebube.
Davis and Jaylin Stewart each netted 14 points to lead their respective teams in the second half. Marvin Hires added 10 points for the Lions and pulled down five rebounds.
Davis led all players with 23 points on the night. Hires recorded 12 followed by Trey Belin's 10. Isaiah Jones led all players with 12 rebounds.
Lees-McRae shot just over 48 percent from the floor to the Lions' 30 on the night. Stewart led the team with 14 points while Gardner ended the game with 12.
Mars Hill returns to action on Sunday, November 20 when they face Claflin inside Chambers Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
