Men's Soccer Upended By Carson-Newman 2-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Catawba College men's soccer team dropped its first match of the season, falling 2-1 to host Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday at McCown Field. The win improves the Eagles to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 4-1-2 and 0-1-1.

Carson-Newman struck just three minutes into the match with Harry Whitehead getting the initial tally. The Eagles added to their lead in the 38th minute on a goal from Nic Carsh.

Catawba cut the margin to a single goal as time was winding down. Joseph Allerton sent a through ball up the middle that Tom Savigar ran onto and slid a shot into the left side of the goal in the 86th minute. The Eagles broke up one final chance for the Indians with two minutes remaining and ran out the clock with a pair of corner kicks in the final minute.

Catawba is set to host Wingate in SAC action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
