The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week, Apr. 12
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Christopher Burton was tabbed the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Andrew Spence from Wingate was named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested Apr. 3rd-Apr. 9th, the League announced today.
Burton, a junior from Johnston, South Carolina, helped lead the Trojans to nine first-place finishes at last weekend's Susan Rouse invitational. He won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.88, while winning the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.59. He has swept the two events in two consecutive weekends. The honor marks his second Men's Track Athlete of the Week selection this season.
Spence, a sophomore from Port Orange, Florida, won the Johnson C. Smith Invitational long jump with a personal-best and a school-record mark of 7.49 meters Saturday. His jump is the best in the SAC this year while also being an NCAA provisional qualifying jump. He and three teammates helped Wingate to a second-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with a mark of 42.44. The honor marks his first Men's Field Athlete of the Week selection this season.
