Trojans Win Season Regular Season Finale

ANDERSON, S.C. -  Anderson University softball (35-5, 18-2 SAC) won its final regular season doubleheader, sweeping South Atlantic Confernce opponent Coker (15-27, 5-17 SAC), winning game one, 9-1 (6), and game two, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex. 

Anderson used seven extra base hits, including three home runs, in game one to put Coker away early. Senior Kayson Boatner tied AU's season home run total after blasting her 22nd home run of the season. Sophomore Hannah Whitaker blasted two home runs in three at-bats to help the Trojans run-rule the Cobras. Senior Morgan Charter hit a triple, while Jessica Neadow, Boatner and freshman Maddie Carpenter busted a double apiece.

The Trojans scored four runs in the first inning, two in the fifth inning and three in the sixth inning. Coker lone run came in the top-half of the sixth inning.

Sophomore Laken Maxwell (19-3) pitched six innings, giving up five hits, while striking out 10.

Game two scoring took a little longer to get going, with AU scoring two runs in the second inning and Coker cutting the lead to one after its top of third inning solo run. Anderson added a run in the third and the fourth inning, scoring four more in the bottom of the sixth.

Senior Sydney Belcher got hot drilling a double and home run to score two Trojans. Boatner went 3-for-4 with junior Yas Laureano each hitting a triple. Boatner ended the day hitting for a combined game cycle hitting two singles, a double, a triple and a home run.

Senior Harlie Duncan (15-2) pitched a superb game, giving up just two hits while striking out six.  

Anderson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to SAC opponent Queens. First-pitch is slated for 2pm.
