Big second quarter pushes #6 Lenoir-Rhyne to win over Men’s Lacrosse

Hickory, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's lacrosse team fell to their third top-7 team of the season on Saturday, falling at 6th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne at Moretz Stadium in Hickory. The Bears improve to 8-1 on the year and 3-0 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians drop to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in league action.

Bakari Neely and Tyler Wedick led Catawba in scoring with two goals apiece, while Matt Mitchell recorded a pair of assists. Dylan Cienfuegos and James Crighton recorded four ground balls apiece and Kyle Chessock forced two turnovers. Myles Moffatt led the Bears with three goals and three assists.

Lenoir-Rhyne opened up with the game's first two goals. Catawba got on the board on a Jordan Dash goal at the 3:09 mark. Catawba answered another LR score with a goal with 1:19 to go from Hunter Clarke to cut their deficit after 15 minutes to 3-2. The Bears scored all eight goals of the second quarter to lead 11-2 at the halftime break.

Frank Cetrone scored on a Mitchell assist to open up the second-half scoring nearly five minutes in. LR scored seven of the next eight goals, leading 18-4 after three quarters. Catawba scored three of the five goals in the fourth quarter, as Neely scored back-to-back goals within 35 seconds of each other and Wedick added Catawba's final goal with just over 11 minutes remaining.

Catawba returns to action with its third-straight ranked opponent and fifth of the season when it visits #12 Anderson next Saturday at noon.
