Second-Seeded Trojans Advance to NCAA Southeast Region Semifinals with Four-Set Win over Mars Hill

ANDERSON, S.C. – With four players posting double-figure kills and junior Madison Roy dishing out a career-high 64 assists, the Anderson University volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 NCAA Southeast Region Championship, by knocking off No. 7-seeded Mars Hill, 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 27-29, 26-24), Thursday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson improved to 23-7 on the season, while Mars Hill saw its season end with a 21-13 mark.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Senior middle blocker Noelle Knutsen shared match-high honors with 17 kills on the strength of a .324 hitting percentage, while also notching three blocks. Sophomore Tabitha Wheeler nearly recorded her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career by knocking down 14 kills and posting eighth digs. Sophomore Jaelyn Grimm added 13 kills behind a .357 hitting accuracy, with senior Regan Duty tallying 12 kills.

In addition to Roy handing out a career-high in assists, the North Myrtle Beach native came up with 27 digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Meghan DeVaux and Lindsay McCurley each came up with 21 digs apiece, while Hannah Neff chipped in nine digs and a pair of service aces. Senior outside hitter Maya Learmonth added seven kills on a .417 hitting percentage.

Madison Roy's career-high 64 assists marked the seventh-highest total in school history.

NOTABLES
• The Trojans are making their fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and their seventh overall appearance.
• With a win against sixth-seeded Augusta, Saturday night, the Trojans would advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
• The Trojans are now 4-6 in their seven appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
• Today's double-double by Madison Roy marked her 13th double-double of the season.
