Softball Falls to Augusta in Doubleheader Action

AUGUSTA, Ga- The Coker University softball team fell in their opening day doubleheader to Augusta University by a score of 6-1 and 8-6 (6 innings). 

 

Game One:

Each team would remain scoreless until the third inning when the Jaguars would strike first scoring two runs. Their offense would surge in the fourth as they would plate four runs, making the score 6-0 in favor of the Jaguars.

Chloe Pelham would lead off the sixth inning with a single to center before stealing second base. Kayla Oswell's RBI single to center would send home Pelham, bringing the final score to 6-1.

 

Game Two:

Coker's bats would come out hot as they would load the bases early on in the first inning. The Cobras would strike first when Kelsey Gollie's RBI single to center would score Chloe Pelham's leadoff single. 

Augusta would plate four runs in the first to take a 4-1 lead headed into the second. 

In her first collegiate at-bat, Delaney Eaves would sned a solo bomb over the outfield wall, putting Coker within two. 

In the bottom of the second, the Jaguars would plate Emma Seagraves from an RBI double to put them up three. 

In the top of the third Kayla Oswell's RBI double would bring home Ava Jay. Bailey Douglas would score Oswell when she sent a two-run sailing bomb over the centerfield wall, tying the game for the Cobras at 5-5. 

Augusta would regain the lead when they plated three runs in the bottom of the third, 8-5.

Eaves would score in the top of the sixth from a Jaguar error before the game was called due to darkness. 

 

Coker softball is back in action on Saturday (Feb. 5) when they travel to North Greenville University for a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. with video and live stats available at cokercobras.com
