Volleyball Grabs First League Win In Sweep of LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Catawba earned its first South Atlantic Conference volleyball win of the season with a sweep of host Lincoln Memorial on Saturday night at Mars Gym. The Catawba Indians improve to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the SAC with a 25-23, 25-14 and 25-16 victory. The Railsplitters fall to 1-5 and 0-2.

Down most of the tight first set, LMU rallied to tie the set late at 23-all. Following a timeout, Allison Bryant provided the winning points of the initial set with a kill then an ace.

The Lady Indians jumped to a 9-1 lead in the second set and kept LMU at least six point behind the rest of the way. Jordan Gore killed off the final point.

Lincoln Memorial scored the first five points of the third set before Catawba regrouped. Bryant finished off a 6-1 run to tie the set. Tied at 8-8, Catawba ran off six points, two on aces by Gabrielle Kuzma. The lead would balloon to 17-9 and eventually 23-14 on a kill by Raytchelle Miranda. Kylie Morgan would kill off match point.

Bryant finished with a dozen kills, while Ashley Johnson had 10 kills and three blocks. Kuzma served three aces and posted 23 digs. Kristen Moehring led LMU with nine kills.

Catawba returns to action next Saturday, hosting Limestone at 6 p.m.
