Trojans Split Regular Season Finale with Queens

Anderson, S.C. -Anderson University Softball team defeated Queens in game one, 7-2, before coming up just short in what turned out to be a pitching duel in game two, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex. Anderson improves to 28-10 overall and 16-8 in SAC action, while the Royals move to 8-24 overall and 4-20 in conference play.

With the today's split and some help from around the league, Anderson has secured the second spot in the league.

"Well, I guess with some help we have secured second place in the conference, said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "Now it's time to move on to the conference tournament and start fresh, where usually we play well." 

Game 1 Summary
Anderson 7            Queens 2

Anderson used 10 hits and one error to score seven runs in the game one victory. The Black and Gold scored three runs in the second, two in the third and added a pair of runs in the sixth.

Queens was able to score two run in the sixth inning on Haley's Himel two-run shot.

Senior Harlie Duncan (13-3) gave up just four hits, while striking out seven batters. Duncan currently ranks tied for second in the SAC with 13 wins.

KEY TROJANS

-Mattie Cantrell went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
-Hannah Whitaker batted 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.
-Mackenzie Haver and Kayson Boatner also homered for the Trojans. Boater was a solo shot, while Haver was a three-run blast.

Game 2 Summary
Anderson 0     Queens 1

The lone run of the game came in the third inning, following a walk and a couple of wild pitches.

Senior Sarah Middleton (7-3) and Queens' Victoria Elder (6-9) scattered three and four hits, respectively between them. Middleton struck out five, while Elder struck out three Trojans.

Anderson had a few chances, but a timely pitch or defensive play stop the opportunity.

KEY TROJANS

-Middleton batted 2-for-3.

UP NEXT

Anderson will be the second-seed in the South Atlantic Conference, which is host by SAC opponent Tusculum on April 24th and April 25th. The Trojans opponent is TBD.
