Anderson Falls to No.5 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team was defeated by No.5 nationally ranked Limestone University Saints on Wednesday (Sept. 27) by a score of 5-0.

The Trojans entered the match fresh coming off seven days of rest following a hard-fought 1-1 draw to Lenoir-Rhyne, putting their season record at 2-2-1. Meanwhile the Saints come in at 6-0-1 to put them at No.5 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll, the highest ranking for the program since 2014.

Limestone was able to come out and control possession from the opening whistle, dictating the pace of play and converting on opportunities in the attacking third. The Saints found the back of the net in the ninth minute to take an early advantage. The home team was able to do so three more times before half, led by a great performance from freshman midfielder Bilal Camara who finished with two goals and an assist in 55 total minutes of action.

Momentum stayed with Limestone in the second half as the Saints continued to apply pressure on the Anderson defense. Goalkeeper Franco Antoniolli Funes was tested throughout the night, finishing with four saves on 10 shots on goal. The Saints held on for a 6-0 victory to improve to 4-0 in SAC play and run their winning streak up to six.

Anderson will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 30) as they play host to Emory & Henry. Gametime is set for 7:30 p.m., with video and live stats available at autrojans.com.
