Women’s Lacrosse picks up 20-6 road win at Emory & Henry

Emory, Va. —- The Catawba College women's lacrosse team grabbed its second South Atlantic Conference win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Emory & Henry College on the road, 20-6, led by four goals apiece from Ella McCusker and Abby Shuren.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba out-shot Emory & Henry 37-16

- The Catawba Indians recorded 28 shots on goal to the Wasps' 10

- Catawba won the ground ball battle 24-18

- The Catawba Indians forced 21 E&H turnovers to 12 from Catawba

- Catawba was 13-for-14 on clear attempts, while limiting E&H to 6-of-12

- The Wasps had 16 draw controls to Catawba's 13

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- McCusker netted four goals and recorded three ground balls; Shuren also netted four scores

- Helena Cronemiller scored twice and assisted twice with three ground balls

- Charlie Skepple had two goals and an assist with a pair of ground balls; Sarah Maier also recorded two goals and an assist with three draw controls

- Jenna Hirvonen and Meredith Marchetti were Catawba's other multi-goal scorers with two apiece, while Michaela Lantz dished out multiple assists

- Tati Verity and Judy Rose also scored

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST QUARTER

- McCusker and Shuren logged early goals in the first two and a half minutes

- Emory & Henry got on the board at the 11:34 mark

- McCusker, Hirvonen, Cronemiller and Shuren added scores in the final six minutes of the period, with the Catawba Indians leading 6-1 after the first quarter

 

SECOND QUARTER

- Hervonen, Maier and Shuren scores made it 9-1 at the 9-minute mark of the second

- An E&H goal broke up what would have been a nine-goal streak for Catawba, as three more scores made it 12-2 at the 4-minute mark

- A late Wasp goal trimmed their halftime deficit to 12-3

 

THIRD QUARTER

- Maier and Skepple scores resumed the running clock to start the second half

- After an Emory & Henry score, back-to-back goals from Marchetti and Cronemiller made it 16-4 after three quarters

 

FOURTH QUARTER

- Verity, Marchetti and Rose goals gave Catawba its largest lead of the game at 19-4

- Shuren added a late score to reach the 20-goal
