Volleyball Knocked Off by Queens in Three Sets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens posted a three-set sweep of visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Wednesday night at Curry Arena. The Royals won by the scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20, improving to 14-10 overall and 9-6 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 9-12 and 6-9.

Allison Bryant recorded 11 kills for Catawba with Kylie Morgan posting nine kills. Raychelle Miranda had eight kills, hitting at 50%, and a pair of blocks. Jordan Gore added three blocks and Gabrielle Kuzma 18 digs.

Queens got 13 kills from Alleigh Johnson and another 13 from Lindsay Elmore. Brooke Farley handed out 41 assists and Jordyn Johnson had 19 digs.

Queens claimed the first set with a late push. Tied at 19, the Royals got a kill from Johnson and combo blocks by Elmore and Farley and Elmore and Johnson to lead 22-19. Kills from Bryant and Payton Medich pulled Catawba within 22-21, but Elmore followed with two kills and Farley added a final kills for the set win.

The Roylas led most of the second set, but it was not decided until late in the set. Catawba trailed 18-17 when Queens scored three in a row which proved to be enough. The Royals rallied from an early Catwaba lead in set three. Queens slowly pulled away from an 11-11 tie and went up 18-14 after a kill from Johnson.

Catawba is at home on Saturday, hosting Carson-Newman at 6 p.m.
