Men's Soccer Cruises Past Lander 5-2

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team was clicking on all cylinders on Saturday night (Sept. 11) as they scored five goals in a non-conference win over the Lander University Bearcats.

Early in the match, Lander jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Max McNulty. However, the Trojans answered back as Eloy Allimadi found the back of the net courtesy of an assist from Alexandre Cox-Ashwood. Just a few minutes later, Allimadi assisted on a goal by Cox-Ashwood as Anderson went into halftime with a lead of 2-1.

Momentum stayed in Anderson's favor as the second half started with two more goals from Cox-Ashwood as he finished the night with a hat trick. In the 59th minute, the Bearcats started to claw their way back into the match as Tom Marriott scored on a penalty kick to make the score 4-2. Harry Ward put the finishing touches on tonight's win in the 67th minute as he scored his second goal of the season, thanks to the assist of Bar Galanti.

The Trojans did a great job of controlling possession and the pace of the game, outshooting the Bearcats 15 to eight, with eight of the 15 shots being on goal. Goalkeeper Gal Elyashiv earned the win, totaling three saves.

"Solid all-around performance from the team tonight," said coach Michael Zion. "The energy our team played with tonight was incredible. I am very proud of their work ethic. This was a great win for our program!"

The Trojans will continue their season on Wednesday (Sept. 15) as they travel to take on Limestone in the first conference game of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM, with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
