Tennis splits Friday SAC matchup with LMU

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College tennis teams split home matchups with Lincoln Memorial on Friday, as the women won 6-1, while the men fell 5-2. The Catawba women's team improves to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the SAC, while the men drop to 4-8 on the season and 2-4 in league play.

Catawba swept the three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Miya Ami and Alexandra Parra opened up doubles play with a 6-0 win, Sofia Herandez and Carolina Correia won in a tiebreak 7-6(4) and Nika Dundovic and Tina Gomes made it a clean sweep with a 6-3 win.

The women went on to win five of six singles matches, as Miya won 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, Matilde Moretti won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, Parra won 7-5, 6-1, Vaishnavi Venkatesh won #5 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Hernandez wrapped it up with an 8-3 win.

The men took two of three doubles matches to take the point. Ryan Little and Marcos Castares took #1 doubles 7-5 and Paul Dekester and Tyler Juergens clinched the point with a 6-3 win.

Little was the only Catawba player to pick up a win in singles action, taking his match 7-6, 6-4. 

Both teams turn around quickly tomorrow, continuing SAC play at Newberry.
