#46 Men's Tennis sets program record for conference wins in a season with win at Limestone

Gaffney, S.C. – The Catawba College men's and women's tennis teams took on the Limestone Saints in a double-action on Monday afternoon, with the No. 46 ranked men rolling to a 6-1 victory and the No. 46 ranked women dropping a tough match to the No. 38 ranked Limestone women by a score of 6-1 at the Emmie Evans Rector Tennis Center 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

No. 46 Catawba Men (8-6, 7-1 SAC) 6, Limestone Men (7-8, 4-5 SAC) 1 

-  Catawba's men set the tone early by sweeping all three matches in Doubles play to claim the first point. Edoardo Cecere and Ryan Little picked their 12th Doubles win of the season on Court No. 1, as they defeated Andre Zamorano and Andres Cortes 6-4 

- Mateo Berne and Marcos Casterespicked up their fifth win in their last six matches on Court No. 2, downing Louca Bertone and Rodolfo Villavicencio 6-3 

- On Court No. 3, Tyler Juergens and Paul Dekester earned their 11thwin together as they took a 6-2 victory over Giovane Calou and Ramiro Rincon Hernandez 

- Named the SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday for his performance against Mars Hill last Friday, Cecere was excellent again as he picked up a two-set win over Bertone from the No. 1 position, 6-1 and 6-4 

- Berne made it a Catawba a 3-0 lead, defeating Zamorano 6-1 and 7-6 on the No. 2 Court 

- Juergens would be defeated on the No. 3 Court, dropping an 8-1 contest to Rincon Hernandez 

- Alessandro Vallettaearned the win on the No. 4 court for Catawba's fourth point, taking down Cortes in three sets. Valletta would bounce back defeat in the opening set with a 6-4 triumph in the second frame and then left no doubt in the third, picking up a 6-0 victory 

- Little earned the win on Court No. 5 as he downed Barthelemy Bourdon by a score of 8-3, his fifth straight win 

- Casteres would give Catawba its sixth and final point from the No. 6 position as he picked up a win over Calou in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

No. 46 Catawba Women (10-5, 5-3) 1, No. 38 Limestone Women (14-4, 7-2) 6 

- Catawba endured a tough start to play in Doubles, as both the No. 2 pairing of Veronika Poliakova and Sofia Hernandez Mera as well as the No. 3 pairing of Tina Gomes and Nika Dundovic would be defeated by a score of 6-3 

- On the No. 1 court, Ami Miya and Isidora Zivkovicwould be edged out 7-5 by Camila Molina Barranco and Anastasiia Khriapko 

- Miya put up a tough fight against Anamaria Kisner-Luca from the No. 1 position in Singles action, as the two split a pair of 6-4 sets. The third set would go down the wire, with Kisner-Luca ultimately able to pull out a 10-7 victory and the point 

- Zivkovic would be defeated by Monika Temkova in a pair of 6-4 sets on Court No. 2 

- Mati Morettiwould be involved in a similar battle to Miya on the No. 3 court against Khriapko, with Khriapko taking the first set in a close 7-5 affair before Moretti rallied for a 6-4 win in the second. The third set would go down the wire, eventually won by Khriapko in a 10-8 thriller for Limestone's fourth point 

- Vaishnavi Ventakeshwas defeated in three sets by Molina Barranco from the No. 4 position, with Ventakesh taking the first set 6-3 but dropping the ensuing two  

- Poliakova dropped a two-set result to Galilea Amavizca on Court No. 5, 6-1 and 6-0 

- Hernandez Mera would pick up a point for Catawba on Court No. 6, defeating Sara Valentini 6-3 and 6-4 for her 12th singles win on the year
