Tennis fall in pair of close losses at Anderson

Anderson, S.C. —- The Catawba College tennis teams dropped a pair of close matches at Anderson University on Wednesday afternoon. The 34th-ranked Catawba women fell 4-3 to the 35th-ranked Trojans to drop to 12-5 overall and 8-3 in the South Atlantic Conference, while the Catawba men dropped a match to 35th-ranked Anderson 5-2 to fall to 6-12 overall and 4-7 in league action.

The Catawba women won two of three doubles matches to earn the point. Sofia Hernandez and Carolina Correia swept their #2 doubles opponent 6-0 and Nika Dundovic and Tina Gomes clinched the point with a 7-6 win in #3 doubles.

The Trojans took four of six singles matches to win the match, however. Miya Ami won in #2 singles 6-2, 6-2 and Alexandra Parra won in #3 singles 7-5, 6-2.

Anderson's men won two of three doubles matches to earn the point. Paul Dekester and Tyler Juergens won 6-4 in #2 doubles.

The Trojans won four of six singles matches. Juergens made it a 2-0 day with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-1 win in #2 singles and Sebastian Zabala followed suit with a 6-4, 7-6 win in #5s.

Catawba returns home for their SAC and home finale with a pair of matches against Tusculum starting at 1 p.m.
