Men's Soccer Scores Four Goals In Wild Win Over Limestone

SALISBURY, N.C. – Four different players netted goals in a high-scoring South Atlantic Conference matchup between the Catawba Indians and the Limestone Saints on Wednesday night. Catawba came from behind two different times in a 4-3 win at the Frock Soccer Complex.

Limestone was quick to strike in the midweek matchup between the pair of regionally ranked teams. Catawba came into the night ranked sixth in the Southeast region standings, and Limestone came in ranked ninth. The Saints got on the board first with a pair of quick-moving passes that ended in a short-range goal inside Catawba's box ten minutes into play.

Catawba wasted no time getting even as Sebastia Cerda-Tous finished on an assist from Bautista Vecchi-Ramello to notch the score 1-1 just 90 seconds after Limestone's goal.

With the momentum on their side, Catawba went on the attack a few minutes later. Salano Birch sent a long feed in to captain Joesph Allerton who finished at the net to make the score 2-1 in the 15th minute.

The first half scoring wasn't done as Limestone tied things up at two goals apiece in the 23rd minute. Both teams went to the break in a 2-2 tie.

Limestone kicked off the second half with a bang as the visitors found the back of the net just two minutes after the intermission.

Catawba stayed the course and continued to put together solid attacks over the next ten minutes. In the 59th minute, that persistence paid off when Tom Savigar found a cutting Vecchi-Ramello in Limestone's goalie box. The freshman forward netted his fifth goal of the year to again even the game at 3-3.

Wednesday's game remained tied for the next 13 minutes until Simone Trentin scored an unreal goal in the 73rd minute. Trentin struck the ball from nearly 30 yards out with his left foot and his shot deflected off the top post and bounced down and into the net for the go-ahead score.

Catawba's defense held firm the rest of the game in a highly physical game where nine cards were given. The Indians earned an impressive 4-3 win to move to 8-3-1 on the season.

The men's soccer team will be back in action again at home this Saturday to take on 11th-ranked Carson-Newman at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles are the top-ranked team in the Southeast region coming into this week.
