Three Different Cobras Tally Goals to Propel Coker Past Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Three different Cobras tallied goals to propel the Coker College field hockey team past the Newberry College Wolves 4-1 Sunday (Oct. 21) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action. Carla Deuble, Kelly Mason, and Amelia Gajewski (2) all recorded scores during the contest.

The Cobras asserted their dominance early in the game and attacked Newberry's defense, earning a penalty stoke. Deuble was tasked with the penalty stroke and buried her shot into the left corner of the cage in the fifth minute. Coker continued to control the pace of the game and headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Similar to the beginning of the first half, the Navy and Gold jumped on the Wolves early in the second half with a score from Mason in the 38th minute. Trailing 3-0, the Wolves stayed in the game with a goal in the 63rd minute. However, Coker crushed any hopes of a comeback and added a fourth score as time expired off of a penalty corner. Gajewski recorded her second goal of the contest in the final seconds and Deuble was credited with the assist.
