Women's Hoops Drops Monday South Atlantic Conference Tilt at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Coker University women's basketball dropped a South Atlantic Conference tilt on Monday (Jan. 17) at Carson-Newman by a score of 93-65.

The teams went bucket-for-bucket for most of the opening frame, playing to a 14-14 tie through five and a half minutes. The teams later locked up at 18-all with under four minutes to play in the quarter, before a late Carson-Newman run gave the Eagles a 27-20 lead after 10 minutes.

Carson-Newman extended its lead into double digits in the second quarter. The Cobras were able to cut into the deficit several times over the course of the quarter, but Carson-Newman took a 52-37 lead to the half.

The Cobras battled through the second half all the way up to the final horn.

Ashauntee Nelson led the way with a season-high 13 points for the Cobras, along with a season-high 12 points from Raya Coley. Six other Cobras contributed points in the game. Hope Richardson led the effort on the boards with nine rebounds in the game, while nine others were active on the glass for Coker. Abigail Keesling dished out a career-high five assists in the game, while four others helped on Coker buckets in the contest. Dasia Lambert registered a team-high two steals in the game, while three others each recorded one steal in the game. Nelson also posted two blocks in the game, while Coley also had one.

The Cobras return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 19) to host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the DeLoach Center, with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
