Men's Soccer Picks Up Second Straight Win; Defeats Limestone 2-0

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team picked up their second consecutive victory by defeating the Limestone University Saints 2-0 on Thursday (Mar. 11).

After a thrilling 1-0 win over Newberry last week, the Trojans traveled to Limestone trying to keep that positive momentum going. The first half was very competitive as both teams were able to create scoring opportunities. Anderson goalkeeper Neko Crist came up with two critical saves to keep the game scoreless. In the 40th minute, midfielder Agustin Ortiz was able to find the back of the net to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

It was more of the same in the second half, as the Trojan back line continued to keep the Saints offensive attack scoreless. In the 67th minute, Ortiz found the back of the net once again for his second score of the night. Gal Elyashiv took over in goal for the second half, coming up with three clutch saves to help fuel a 2-0 victory for the Trojans.

"Tonight was a good team performance," said coach Michael Zion. "We played well and picked up an important three points on the road. We are defending well with our second shutout in a row, and we are improving in front of goal game by game. These are all good signs as we look to keep this momentum moving forward."

The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday (Mar. 18) as they travel to take on the Queens Royals. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with live coverage available at www.autrojans.com.
