Volleyball Falls In Four Sets to Elizabeth City State

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Catawba College women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match with Elizabeth City State on the road, 26-24, 16-25, 12-25, 16-25 on Tuesday evening. 

Catawba took the first set, 26-24, behind ten kills by six different players including Ashley Johnson, Kelcie Love, Dara Kane, Rachel Gonzales, Raytchelle Miranda, and Natalie Rehm.

The volleyball team faced set point trailing 24-22 late in the first set when they roared back with kills from Rehm and Johnson. With the set tied at 24-all, Catawba's defense made a stand when Rachel Gonzales made a solo block at the net, then Gonzales and Johnson combined for a block to give their team the first set victory. 

It was all ECSU the rest of the way as the Vikings held the lead throughout set two and held Catawba to a negative hitting percentage in the final two sets. 

Ashley Johnson had seven kills to pace the Catawba Indians while Dara Kane had five kills to go along with 19 assists and 10 digs. 

The volleyball team will be back on the court this coming Friday for a home conference match against Limestone at 7:00 p.m.
