Lander Outlasts Trojans in Midweek Contest

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team returned home for a brief one-game homestand and posted a pair of four-run innings, but was unable to overcome four miscues, as Lander defeated the Trojans, 11-9, Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 15-10 on the season, while Lander swept the season series and improved to 14-12.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Junior Carlos Hernandez was 3-for-4 at the plate, with a double, two singles and he also reached base on a seventh-inning walk. The designated hitter scored a pair of runs and drove in a run. Second baseman Kevin Sosa added a double and a single in four at-bats, while posting an RBI and scoring a run. JC LeGrand drove in two runs with a second-inning single, with Justin Fox crossing the plate twice after drawing walks in both the fifth inning and the seventh frame. Jaxon Young also notched a pair of RBI with a fifth-inning single.

Nicolas Miller (0-1) absorbed the loss after allowing three runs on a pair of hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lander opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, with AU answering with four runs in the bottom of the frame.

The Bearcats quickly knotted the score with two more runs in the third inning and took a 5-4 lead with another run in the fourth, before the Trojans capitalized on a pair of walks and three singles to claim an 8-5 advantage after five innings.

Lander trimmed AU's lead to 8-7 by plating two more runs in the sixth inning and took the lead for good (10-7) with a three-run seventh frame. AU climbed within 10-9 with a solo run in the bottom of the seventh, before LU added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to finish out the scoring.

The two teams combined to use 14 pitchers in the midweek contest.

NOTABLES
• The Trojans slipped to 10-4 at home this season.
• The Trojans and Bearcats have met on 37 occasions, with Lander leading the all-time series, 25-12. The first-ever meeting between the two programs occurred during the 1998 campaign.
• Lander has won eight of the last 10 matchups.
• Six batters were hit by a pitch.

UP NEXT
Anderson is scheduled to go back on the road and will open a three-game South Atlantic Conference series at Mars Hill on Friday. First-pitch in the Tar Heel State is scheduled for 2 p.m.
