Maier nets two at #13 Limestone

Gaffney, S.C. – The Catawba College Women's Lacrosse team (2-11, 1-6 SAC) would be defeated by the No. 13 ranked Limestone Saints (14-0, 8-0) at Saints Field on Saturday. 

 

TEAM STATS 

- Limestone outshot Catawba 35-8, putting 26 on target while Catawba had five attempts on goal 

- The Saints controlled 25 draws, with Catawba corralling five 

- Catawba would turn the ball over 13 times, with Limestone ceding possession 11 times. Ground balls would be 17-10, Limestone 

- For Limestone, Emma McCoy (15:00), Emily Hoffman (21:46), Izzy Eldridge (15:04) and Tristan Schkade (8:10) combined for two saves. Evie Kaserudmade three stops for Catawba 

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS 

 - Sarah Maier scored a pair of goals, with Mary Sorvillotallying the other for Catawba. Maier also led the side with four shots 

- Sorvillo also nabbed an assist 

- Judy Rose recovered two ground balls, with eight Catawba players securing one each  

- Jenna Hirvonen and Maier controlled a pair of draws 

- Meredith Marchetti, Tati Verity, Charlie Skepple, and Helena Cronemiller each caused a turnover 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

FIRST QUARTER 

- Limestone jumped out an early 5-0 lead in the first five minutes, with Joscelin Martin opening the scoring at 14:05. Keira Martin struck :25 seconds later, followed by Reese Hjertaas after another :35 seconds 

- Madison Hobbs made it 4-0 at 12:02 before Martin scored again at 11:05 

- Maier netted Catawba's first goal at 10:18, snapping the Limestone streak to make it 5-1 

- Joscelin Martin completed her hat-trick at the 6:54 mark, with Sarah Dudick striking twice over a :36 second span shortly after to make it 8-1 at 4:14 

- Jenna Kiley, Joscelin Martin, and Leah Rycroft all tallied goals between 3:36 and 1:39 as the Saints took an 11-1 lead into the first intermission  

 

SECOND QUARTER 

- Keira Martin opened the scoring in the second quarter with 8:43 on the board, with Deirdre Jones netting two goals over a 2:02 stretch shortly after 

- Sorvillo scored Catawba's first goal of the quarter with 1:59 to go until the half, with the score at the break 14-2 in favor of the Saints  

 

THIRD QUARTER 

- Cassie Peat tallied the first goal of second half at 13:29, answered by Maier's second at 11:31 

- Dudick scored her third of the game with 8:00 on the clock, sparking a four-goal Saints run as all of Hjertaas (6:24), Keily Davis (4:25), and Rylee Johnson (1:04) found the back of the net 

 

FOURTH QUARTER 

- Limestone's four-goal run turned into an eight-goal run in a 4-0 fourth quarter, led by Peat once again scoring the first goal of the quarter at 12:56 

Erin Young (11:24), Kiley (7:57), and Evelynn Vissari (4:11) would also tally goals over the final frame  

 

NOTES 

- Maier's two-goal effort was her fifth this season, and her second over the last three games
