Cobras Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Coker University women's lacrosse team fell in their 2022 season opener to Lander University Saturday (Feb. 5) by a score of 20-3.

The Cobras jumped out to the early lead after senior Amariah Lawson scored just one minute into the game to give Coker the 1-0 lead. Lander would put up the next five goals before Coker would add a goal to cut the lead to 5-2. The Bearcats would answer back with a sixth goal, but senior Meagan Gallagher answered the Lander score with one of her own to make it 6-3. The Cobras battled valiantly in the second half but were unable to get back on the score sheet. 

Senior Hannah Shuren led the way statistically for the Cobras with three shots in the game. Emma Rhines and Meagan Gallagher each added two shots apiece. Madeline Hart contributed three ground balls and goalkeeper Abby Kellner had three ground balls of her own. Kellner also recorded 14 saves in goal.

The Cobras will be back in action Friday (Feb. 11) when they host the Falcons of Montevallo University. First draw is scheduled for 6 p.m., with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
