Tusculum slips into four-way tie for first place

ANDERSON, S.C. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team dropped its second road match of the week in a contest at Anderson on Saturday (Nov. 6) afternoon. The Pioneers are now in a four-way tie with Anderson, Lenoir-Rhyne, and Wingate for first place, all with a 13-3 record in the SAC.

The Black and Orange (17-4, 13-3 SAC) lost by scores of 17-25, 23-25, 23-25 to the Trojans (18-6, 13-3 SAC).

Jaelyn Grimm and Noelle Knutsen led Anderson with eight kills apiece, as Grimm fired on a .353 hitting percentage. Sadie Kluner (6), Regan Duty (5), Tabitha Wheeler (5), and Madison Roy (1) rounded out the scoring column. Roy dished out 30 assists and landed a pair of service aces. Lindsay McCurley finished with a match-high five aces and Meghan DeVaux added 15 digs. Grimm is credited with four block assists in the match, followed by a trio from both Knutsen and Roy.

For Tusculum, Raeley Matthews collected eight kills, just ahead of Carli Pigza's seven on a .429 clip. Bailey Parker (6), Emiah Burrowes (5), Emma Johnson (3), and Lydia Collins (2) also added kills to the effort. Elise Carmichael handed out 15 assists and notched two aces. Both Matthews and Carly Sosnowski recorded three aces and Collins completed the ace category with one. Sosnowski finished with a team-best 12 digs, while Matthews had the second-most with nine. At the net, Pigza is credited with four total blocks (one solo, three assists), followed by Parker's three block assists.

Anderson hit .160 as a team with 33 kills and 18 errors in 94 total attempts. Tusculum hit .138 with 31 kills, 18 errors, and 94 total attacks. The Trojans narrowly led the Pioneers in assists (32-31) and digs (39-38), while the teams tied with nine aces and seven total blocks.

Tusculum begins the final weekend of the regular season at archrival Carson-Newman. First serve on Friday (Nov. 12) night is scheduled for 7 p.m.
