Trojans Defeat Queens to Complete the Season Sweep; 60-48

ANDERSON, S.C. The Anderson University women's basketball team overcame a 4-of-18 (22.2%) second quarter to eventually put away South Atlantic Conference opponent Queens; 60-48 on Saturday at the Abney Center.

With the victory, Anderson improves to 12-4 overall and 9-3 in the league while Queens drops to 4-13 overall and 4-8 in the conference action.

The Trojans were led by senior guard Heather Jankowy's team-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from behind the arc while sophomore Tamia Eatmon scored a season-high 11 points and pulled down a season-high six rebounds. Senior Jasmine Franklin netted 10 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Junior forward Kaylee Koerperich played a valuable 18 minutes, scoring eight points and ripping down a career-high nine rebounds while freshman Madison Baggett continued her steady play dropping in eight points and grabbing six rebound (5 offensive) for the Black and Gold.

Queens placed two Royals in double figures paced by Maggie Stewart's season-high 17 points. McKell Oliverio added 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

The Royals jumped out to an early 6-0 lead to start the game eventually winning the first period of action,19-14. After Oliverio's made jumper at the 8:18 mark to put Queens ahead by two in the second quarter, Anderson and the Royals both went on a six minute scoring drought. Jankowy drained one of her four 3-pointers on the day to give Anderson its first lead of the game, 22-2, with 2:13 to play in the period. The Trojans were able to tack on four more points to claim the 26-21 half-time lead.

Anderson's hot shooting from beyond the arc (6-of-11) and a determined defense in the second half was too much for the Royals to overcome. The Trojans also outrebounded Queens 48-26.

Head Coach Jonathon Barbaree's Thoughts: "We challenged our girls tonight to get o the boards and they responded. I was very pleased with that, but we need to continue working. I thought our bench did a great job tonight, as well."

-The Trojans broke a four game streak of being outrebounded by grabbing 22 more rebounds than Queens.
-The Black and Gold have won seven straight over the Royals.
-Anderson shot its third lowest FG% (33.9%) and second lowest FT% (53.3%) on the year.
