No. 20 Queens Opens Strong; Defeats Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. – Just a week after surviving an upset bid by the Trojans in overtime, 20th-ranked Queens used 53-percent shooting accuracy to defeat Anderson, 86-60, in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action, Monday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson saw its win streak halted at two games and slipped to 5-7 overall and 5-7 in league action, while Queens (13-4, 12-3 SAC) won its fourth straight decision.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Junior guard Joseph Staton led the Trojans with 14 points, with junior guard Kai Rivers adding 11 points and sharing game-high honors with seven rebounds. Senior forward Josh Livingston tossed in eight points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Junior Jalen Hillery scored 10 points and recorded five rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Royals scored the first basket of the contest, but with Queens connecting on just one of its first six field goal attempts, AU countered with a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to claim a five-point lead with 15:55 on the clock.

But Queens quickly heated up and scored 13 straight points as part of a 20-5 outburst that saw the visitors open a double-digit, 24-14, advantage midway through the first half. Behind 56-percent shooting accuracy, the Royals built a 25-point lead late in the frame and held a 48-29 halftime cushion. AU matched the 19-point deficit early in the second half, but was unable to get any closer the rest of the way.
