Men’s Soccer earns get-back win over Davis & Elkins

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's soccer team snapped a four-game winless streak on Wednesday, picking up a win over 2022 NCAA Tournament participant Davis & Elkins at Frock Field in non-conference NCAA soccer action.

 

TEAM STATS

- Catawba out-shot Davis & Elkins 16-8

- The Catawba Indians held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal

- Catawba recorded five corner kicks to D&E's two

- The Catawba Indians got two of the three yellow cards in the match

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Joe Bennett scored the game-winner

- Salano Birch tied a team-high with two shots on goal and scored

- Oscar Taylor netted Catawba's third goal of the afternoon

- Sebastia Cerda-Tous and Christian Kernell produced assists

- Zak Stiffler made four saves in his sixth clean sheet of the season

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

- Cerda-Tous fired a shot on goal in the fifth minute

- D&E tested Stiffler in the 18th minute, but the Catawba keeper made the save

- Kernell sent a free kick into Bennett for the winner in the 38th minute

 

SECOND HALF

- Birch netted a goal off of the Cerda-Tous in the 48th minute

- Cerda-Tous and Jacopo Suagher forced the D&E keeper to a pair of saves in the 56th minute

- Stiffler made a pair of saves in the middle part of the half to keep the Senators scoreless

- Taylor netted Catawba's third and final goal in the 76th minute
