Football Overpowered by Lenoir-Rhyne at Home

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College football team was defeated by the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 62-10 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears used a balanced offensive attack as they threw for 313 yards and rushed for 239. Catawba's offense struggled to get much going as they had just 140 total yards of offense in the contest and seven first downs.

Lenoir-Rhyne never punted in the game as Catawba turned them over on downs in the first drive of the game, and Orande Whifield forced a fumble that was recovered by MeKayle Burris early in the second quarter.

Other than those two blunders, LR got out to a 34-2 halftime lead and never looked back.

Jordan Gregg led Catawba with ten tackles, and Mekayle Burris had nine stops.

The football team will play their final game of the season as they honor the team's seniors next Saturday against Carson-Newman at 1:00 p.m.
