Montevallo sweeps Tennis in Thursday matinee

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's and women's tennis teams fell in a pair of matches against the University of Montevallo on Thursday in NCAA Division II non-conference tennis action. The 34th-ranked Catawba women fall to 9-4 overall, while the Catawba men drop to 4-10 on the season.

The Falcons took each of the three doubles matches, while Catawba took two of five completed singles matches. Matilde Moretti won #2 singles 7-5, 6-1 and Veronika Poliakova won in #6 singles 6-1. 6-1. Vaishnavi Venkatesh's #5 singles match ended in a 6-3, 3-6, 2-2 draw.

The men, meanwhile, took one of three doubles matches as Taketoshi Nanao and Sebastian Zabala took their #3 doubles matchup 6-2. The men also won two of five completed singles matches as Ryan Little defeated his #3 singles opponent 6-4, 6-1 and Zabala went 2-0 on the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win in #5 singles.

The teams return to South Atlantic Conference action this weekend, traveling to Mars Hill for a noon start.
