Fine goes the distance in Baseball’s 15-2 series-opening win

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College baseball team scored 11 runs between the fifth and sixth innings on Friday afternoon, rolling to a series-opening win over Emory & Henry at Newman Park in South Atlantic Conference action.

 

TEAM STATS

- Catawba out-hit Emory & Henry 15-6

- The Catawba Indians hit four of seven extra-base hits in the game and two of three homers

- The Wasps committed the lone error of the contest

- Catawba recorded all five stolen bases of the game

- E&H's pitchers allowed 15 earned runs on 15 hits and four walks, striking out two; Catawba's Austin Fine went the distance, tossing seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and three walks, striking out seven

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Logan Rogers was 2-for-3 with a grand slam, a walk, five RBI and two runs scored

- Dylan Driver was 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and a run scored

- Cooper Bryson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored

- Cole Hales added two hits with an RBI and two runs scored

- Ty Hubbard also recorded a pair of hits with two RBI and a run scored

- Bo Rusher was one of six Catawba Indians to record multiple hits in the game with a double and two runs scored

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

THIRD INNING

- Levi Perrell's RBI double got Catawba on the board in the third

- Driver drove in two more with a no-out single to center field to take an early 3-0 lead

 

FOURTH INNING

- Drew Robertson walked and stole second to lead off the fourth

- Bryson drive him in with a single the opposite way

 

FIFTH INNING

- Driver belted a solo homer to left field to start the scoring in the fifth

- Hales drover home Rusher on an RBI single

- Rogers' RBI infield single made it a 7-0 Catawba lead

- Hubbard drove in two more on a single up the middle

 

SIXTH INNING

- Parker Styborski singled to lead off the sixth inning

- He later scored on a throwing error to take the 10-0 lead

- One of Robertson's three walks in the game loaded the bases

- Bryson moved everyone up one with an RBI single

- Roger's blast drove in four as the Catawba Indians opened up a 15-0 lead

- Jermie Greene's solo homer got E&H on the board in the bottom half of the sixth

 

SEVENTH INNING

- The Wasps tacked on one more with a two-out double to left center

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba and Emory & Henry wrap up this series with a doubleheader on Sunday; first pitch from game one at Newman Park is set for 1 p.m.
