Women's Soccer Extends Shutout Streak to Eleven Games With 2-0 Win Over Saints

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba added its 11th shutout to an already record-breaking streak in a 2-0 victory over visiting Limestone in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The win improves the eighth-ranked Catawba Indian soccer team to 13-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the SAC. The Saints drop to 8-3-1 and 5-3-1.

Katie Beck put Catawba on top on the half hour when she converted on a penalty kick. The Lady Indians doubled their lead a minute into the second half. Beck sent a free kick from just inside midfield that found Sydney Jimmo near the top of the box. Jimmo headed a shot over Limestone keeper Samantha Aguilar-Hopkins just inside the far right post.

That was enough support for the Catawba defense that did not allow a Limestone shot in the opening half and just seven for the match. The Lady Indians have not allowed a goal since the 75th minute of a 6-2 win over Shaw on August 30, a record span of 1,005 minutes. The previous consecutive records of nine shutouts and 840 scoreless minutes were set last season. Catawba has recorded shutouts in 27 of its last 35 matches.

Sierra Davis made a pair of saves for Catawba. She has not allowed a goal in 834 minutes, breaking her record of 795 scoreless minutes set last year. Aguilar-Hopkins stopped nine shots for the Saints.

Catawba will host Carson-Newman on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
