Trojans Pick Up Big 1-0 Win at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Anderson University men's soccer team picked up a South Atlantic Conference win on Wednesday (Oct. 25) with a 1-0 win on the road at Carson-Newman.

The match was originally scheduled on September 9th but was called after 32 minutes of action due to inclement weather with Anderson holding a 1-0 lead. Anderson scored in the 32nd minute with a goal from Juan Jose Alvarez, assisted by Lucas Goldberg. Goalkeeper Amos Uber picked up two saves in goal until the postponement.

Play resumed with the score remaining 1-0, and Uber continuing in goal for the Trojans. Carson-Newman applied pressure from the first whistle, totaling 18 shots in the match compared to five from Anderson. Uber finished with four saves to preserve the clean sheet combined with a great effort from the back line led by Tiago Perez and Pol Elias to clinch the victory.

"We picked up three important points tonight," said coach Michael Zion. "It was a really tough game for us but the team found a way to get the job done. Now we have to regroup and recover to get ready for another big match this Saturday. Vamous AU!"

With the win, the Trojans earned three points and now sit tied for fifth place with Lenoir-Rhyne with 15 points. Anderson is one point behind Coker for fourth place, which would guarantee a home SAC tournament playoff game.

Next up for Anderson is a match with Wingate University on Saturday (Oct. 28), who currently sit in first place in the SAC (22 points) and ranked No.12 nationally. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., with video and live stats available at autrojans.com.
