Trojans Fend Off Determined Catawba; 74-69

ANDERSON, S.C. The Anderson University women's basketball team needed an extra period to avoid a season sweep by South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba, 74-69, on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym.

With the win, Anderson improves to 17-5 overall and 14-4 in conference action while Catawba drops to 13-10 overall and 10-8 in SAC play.

The Trojans were paced by senior Jasmine Franklin's fourth double-double of the season, 24 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Alexy Mollenhauer's 22 points and eight rebounds. Mollenhauer also contributed defensively with a career-high four block shots while also recording two steals.

Capping off the Black and Gold's scoring was junior Kaylee Koerperich(9), freshman Madison Baggett(7), freshman Makayla Green(6), senior Heather Jankowy(3) and senior Bailey Sims(3).

Catawba placed two players in double-figures with Terri Rogers 24 points and Serena Brown's 15 points. Rogers also ripped down a game-high 18 rebounds for the Indians.

Anderson claimed a 16-15 lead after the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead until a made foul shot by Catawba's Madison Hallman with 38 ticks left in regulation, 64-63.

The Trojans tied the score two seconds later at 64 on a made free throw by Koerperich. The Indians worked the ball around for a final shot with Rogers getting fouled with eight seconds remaining. Rogers drained both free throws to put the Indians up two. With two ticks left on the clock, Mollenhauer laid the ball in to force overtime.

During the overtime period, the Trojans scored first to go up two, 68-66. Catawba answered back with a three point basket by Brown. AU's Franklin grabbed a huge offensive rebound converting it into a made layup to put the Trojans back up by one. Franklin was able to score a minute later on another layup to push the lead to three, 72-63.

Catawba was able to get off a couple of 3-pointers before being forced to foul. Baggett stepped to the line and drained both foul shots to put the game out of reach.

Head Coach Jonathon Barbaree's Thoughts: "Just happy to get a road win against a great team. Both teams fought hard the entire game. Down the stretch I thought we executed on some key possessions late that helped us get the win."

-Franklin's double-double was the fourth of the season with the last coming against Lenoir-Rhyne on Jan. 8th.
-Anderson outscored Catawba 44-26 in the paint.
-The Trojans are 15-1 when they outrebound their opponent.
