The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2015-16 Winter Echols Athletic Excellence Award Standings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate University leads the 2015-16 South Atlantic Conference Echols Athletic Excellence Award Standings at the conclusion of the SAC Fall and Winter Regular Seasons. After winning a pair of championships this past fall, the Bulldogs finished tied for second in women’s basketball, while the men’s team placed third to push their total to 82.5 points on the 2015-16 season.
In second-place is Carson-Newman with 70.5 points, followed by Queens with 61 points. Lincoln Memorial claimed the 2015-16 Men’s Basketball Championship and is currently No. 4 with 59.5 points. Anderson took home the 2015-16 Women’s Basketball Championship to run its total to 56.5 points and round out the top five.
Lenoir-Rhyne currently stands at No. 6 in the points with 53, ahead of Catawba, who has 51 points. Mars Hill’s 47.5 points are good for the No. 8 spot and at No. 9 is Newberry with 39.5 points. Tusculum is No. 10 in the League with 38 points, while Brevard sits at No. 11 with 29.5 points. Coker rounds out the list with 25.5 points.
The Echols Athletic Excellence Award is presented annually to the member athletic department that earns the highest point total based on cumulative final standings in each of the Conference's 18 sports. Regular season finish is used in the sports of men's and women's soccer, volleyball, football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, men’s and women’s lacrosse, baseball and softball, while SAC Championship results are used for men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf and men’s and women’s outdoor track.
