11 SAC Cross Country Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-District Honors
A total of 11 student-athletes from SAC cross country programs have been selected to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District III Track and Cross Country Team, it was announced by CoSIDA.
MCLEAN, Va. – A total of 11 student-athletes from SAC cross country programs have been selected to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District III Track and Cross Country Team, it was announced by CoSIDA.
Six SAC men's cross country runners were named to the team, while five female student-athletes earned the distinction.
Representing the SAC on the men's team were Wingate's Binyam Ateka Belachew and Steve Hammond, Mars Hill's Eric Blackburn, Tusculum's David Cooper, Catawba's Christian Crifasi and Lincoln Memorial's Bradley Maldonado.
Belachew has a perfect 4.0 GPA studying pre-medicine, Hammond has a 3.64 GPA in sport management, Blackburn carries a 3.70 GPA majoring in biology, Cooper has a 4.0 GPA in business administration, Crifasi boasts a 3.65 GPA in business administration, and Maldonado has a 3.69 GPA studying biology and pre-medicine.
On the women's side, SAC student-athletes Jessie Baldwin and Hannah Rohrer of Newberry, Jenny Grant of Tusculum, Olivia Myers of Catawba and Keeley Wood of Wingate were selected to the team.
Baldwin carries a 4.0 GPA majoring in biology, Rohrer a 3.93 in elementary and early childhood education, Grant has a 4.0 GPA in psychology, Myers boasts a 3.97 GPA studying biology and Wood has a 3.86 GPA in communication studies.
By being named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, each of the honorees are now eligible for inclusion on the Capital One Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on June 26.
To be considered for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must possess at least a 3.0 GPA, have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, and must be a starter or significant reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
