Queens Women Win 2019 NCAA DII Southeast Region, Wingate Qualifies for National Championship with Tusculum’s McMillen Placing Second Overall and Five SAC Teams Placing in the Top-10
WINGATE, N.C. (TheSAC.com) – With five runners finishing in the Top 20, the Queens University of Charlotte women's cross country team claimed its second-straight sweep of the NCAA DII Southeast Region Championship, Saturday morning at the Wingate XC facility.
Queens, who won their fourth-straight SAC Championship two weeks ago outdistanced Flagler and Wingate for the title. Anderson, who finished fourth overall in the SAC Championship also finished fourth overall in the Region Championship.
The Bulldogs finished third overall with a score of 135 points. Bulldog Franziska Althaus placed fourth in the women's 6k with a time of 21:45.7.
Tusculum's Nicole McMillen leads the Five SAC women who placed in the Top-10 at No. 2 with a time of 21:02:1. Wingate's Franziska Althaus follows close behind with a time of 21:45.7, Queens Hannah Wolkenhauer with 21:47.4, Carson-Newman's Rachel Strayer with 22:20.6 and Lenoir-Rhyne's Janet Kwambai rounding it out with a time of 22:30.2.
The Top five finishers are guaranteed a spot in the NCAA National Cross Country Championships, which will be in Sacramento, California on Nov. 23rd.
