Wingate’s Melissa Deluca named Volleyball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. ­- Wingate's Melissa Deluca has been named the South Atlantic Conference volleyball Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Deluca is the second straight Bulldog to commandeer the award after teammate Rebecca Brezovec claimed the honor last week.

A junior setter, Deluca paced the Bulldogs in their four matches last week, leading the team in hitting percentage (.472) while doling out 12.50 assists-per-game.

The 2005 All-South Atlantic Conference second team member was named MVP of the 2006 Wingate Classic after leading the team to a perfect 3-0 mark at the event.

The Bahama, N.C. native concluded the week averaging 12.75 assists-per-contest and posting a .407 hitting percentage in the 2006 season.

The SAC Volleyball Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors of the league.
