Wingate's Wilshire Named SAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate University senior jumper Vanisha Wilshire has earned SAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Monday, March 18.
Wilshire, a Louisburg, N.C. native, claimed the silver medal is the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship in the high jump with a leap of 1.74 meters. The feat was her second consecutive runner-up performance at the meet and third overall. She has six All-America trophies to her credit. Wilshire also racked up her third straight USTFCCCA Southeast Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and was named SAC Women's Field Athlete of the Meet at the conference championships in February. She won the SAC women's high jump (1.62 meters) and triple jump (12.02 meters), defending her titles, and finished third in the long jump. Wilshire also won the JDL Fast Track Early Bird Duals high jump in December with a leap of 1.75 meters, an indoor school record and indoor personal best. The mark was tied for the fourth-best leap across Division II during the season.
The SAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year award is determined following the completion of the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship and is voted on by the league's head coaches.
